About Me!
My name is Katie Jamrozy, and I am teaching English 9 and Creative Writing / Journalism at Amelia County High School during the 2018-2019 school year!  This is my 4th year with ACHS, I am very excited to continue to be a part of the Amelia community...GO RAIDERS!

Through I grew up constantly moving, in a NAVY family, I currently I live in Farmville, near Longwood University, where I went to college from 2007-2011.  I earned my BA in English at Longwood, along with a Concentration (and license) in Secondary Education and a Minor in Outdoor Education.  During college I participated in several clubs and organizations such as the Student Educators for Active Leadership, Relay for Life, Alternative Spring Break, Longwood Company of Dancers and Blue Heat Dance Team.  I worked as a rock wall attendant, ropes course facilitator, and trip leader for Longwood Outdoors and as a building supervisor for Campus Recreation.  I LOVED my time at Longwood, and will always be a Lancer.

After graduating from Longwood I taught Adventure Learning and Creative Writing during summer school at Amelia County Middle school!

Shortly after that, I found myself back at Longwood, this time working for the school as an Admissions Counselor!  My job was to travel the east coast visiting high school students and their families at schools, and at college / career nights to share with them all about Longwood.  I helped seniors through the application and admissions process, admitted students to the university, and assisted with recruitment and yielding events on campus!  I loved getting to help the next class of Lancers find their home with the bLUe and white!

After working for admissions for a handful of years, I moved on to Sandy River Outdoor Adventures, a family business in Farmville, where I served as the General Manager of Adventure Activities, like The Adventure Park, Canoe and Kayak Outfitters and High Bridge Bike Rentals as well as as the Program Coordinator for Team Building Virginia, a portion of the company dedicated to Team Building, Leadership Development, and Adventure Education experiences!

I LOVE being outside and going on adventures with my family!  I have a 6 year old golden retriever named Blitzen, who loves playing almost as much as I do...sadly, he isn't very good at fetch!  I work part time at Challenge Discovery on UofR's campus and as a Coach at James River CrossFit. I am passionate about fitness, and am an olympic lifter and avid CrossFitter.  My favorite things are: THE BEACH, OWLS the color GREEN and HOT CHOCOLATE!

My teaching style is very hands on!  I believe strongly in the experiential education cycle and that teaching students to think critically is to teach them to learn to mastery.  I love activities and projects, so come to class with a positive attitude and prepared to work hard, but have fun!
